As the autumn finally breaks through, we leave the summer behind it and adjust our lifestyles. As the migrating birds leave our shores for warmer climbs, some of us tend to hibernate in our homes.
Autumn has a natural warmth to the colours, its one of my favourite seasons of the year! I embrace the changing seasons, especially the burnt orange notes! (The word autumn comes from the ancient Etruscan root autu- and has within it connotations of the passing of the year. It was borrowed by the neighbouring Romans, and became the Latin word autumnus. As the dark mornings arrive, I choose to don the wellington boots and waterproof jacket and find places to walk, rather than curl up and hibernate.
Finally, I did spend my summer recovering from surgery, and now am beginning to feel so much better. I ‘had’ Cancer and find my mental wellbeing is important. I don’t have time to dwell on the ifs but embrace everyday, I begin with a positive thought. The power of positive thinking is incredibly powerful, I brush off the negatives! why? because I don’t have time to deal with them and I prefer to live everyday as if its a gift. Welcome to the Autumn, and the changes afoot. For those that struggle during these dark days’ try counselling it’s a place to be heard in the darkest of your days.
